This slow cooker hot toddy is a cozy, hands-off cocktail perfect for parties and chilly nights. With honey, lemon, spices, and whiskey, it’s warming, customizable, and sure to please a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water (filtered if possible)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 large lemons, sliced into rounds
  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 8–10 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise pods (optional)
  • 1.5 cups whiskey (bourbon or Irish whiskey recommended)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced (optional but recommended)
  • 1 small orange, sliced (optional)
  • For serving: lemon wheels or wedges
  • For serving: cinnamon sticks
  • For serving: extra honey

Instructions

  1. Slice 2 large lemons into thin rounds. If using, slice the orange and ginger as well.
  2. Stud half of the lemon slices with whole cloves (about 4-5 per slice).
  3. Pour 4 cups water into the slow cooker.
  4. Add honey, all lemon slices (clove-studded and plain), orange slices (if using), cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise pods, and sliced ginger.
  5. Stir gently with a wooden spoon.
  6. Set slow cooker to LOW for 2-3 hours or HIGH for 1-1.5 hours, until hot and fragrant.
  7. Once hot, stir in whiskey. Heat on LOW for another 10-15 minutes to warm through.
  8. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as desired.
  9. Ladle into mugs, straining out spices and fruit if desired.
  10. Garnish with lemon wheel and cinnamon stick. Serve with extra honey and lemon for guests to customize.

Notes

Add whiskey after the base is hot to preserve flavor and alcohol. Taste and adjust honey or lemon to suit your crowd. For a mocktail, skip whiskey and add more water or apple cider. Keep the slow cooker on WARM during parties for easy self-serve. Strain out spices for a clearer drink. Recipe is forgiving and easily customizable with different spices or sweeteners.
