A quick and easy patriotic sangria featuring fresh strawberries, blueberries, dry white wine, and a splash of citrus, perfect for summer parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • Fresh blueberries
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) orange liqueur (optional, like Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups (240360 ml) sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the strawberries and blueberries under cold water. Hull and slice the strawberries into thin pieces (about 1/4 inch thick). Set aside.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine 1 bottle (750 ml) of dry white wine with 1/4 cup (60 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  3. Stir in 1/4 cup (60 ml) orange liqueur and 2 tablespoons of simple syrup. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
  4. Gently add the sliced strawberries and whole blueberries to the pitcher. Use a wooden spoon to lightly stir, making sure the fruit is well distributed without breaking it down.
  5. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let the flavors meld and the fruit infuse the wine. If pressed for time, 45 minutes is sufficient.
  6. Just before serving, add ice cubes to the pitcher and top off with 1 to 1 1/2 cups (240-360 ml) sparkling water or club soda for a refreshing fizz.
  7. Garnish with fresh mint leaves on top for color and aroma. Pour into glasses, including some fruit in each serving.

Notes

Use frozen berries if fresh are not in season. For a non-alcoholic version, replace white wine and orange liqueur with sparkling white grape juice or extra soda. Adjust sweetness with simple syrup or natural sweeteners like honey or agave. Add sparkling water only just before serving to keep fizz fresh. Stir gently to avoid breaking fruit and clouding the drink.
