A quick and easy frozen watermelon margarita slushie that perfectly balances sweet watermelon, tangy lime, and tequila for a refreshing summer drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cubed fresh watermelon, seeds removed
  • 1 cup (240 ml) tequila blanco
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) simple syrup or agave nectar (optional)
  • 2 cups (about 475 ml) ice cubes
  • Salt for rimming glasses (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the watermelon into roughly 1-inch cubes and remove any seeds. Squeeze fresh limes to get about 1/2 cup of juice. Chill your glasses in the freezer if desired.
  2. Optional: Pour coarse salt onto a small plate. Rub the rim of each glass with a lime wedge, then dip the rims into the salt to coat. Set aside.
  3. Add the watermelon cubes and ice cubes to a blender. Pulse a few times until the ice breaks up and the watermelon starts to liquefy, about 30 seconds.
  4. Pour in the tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and simple syrup or agave nectar. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until smooth and slushie-like.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more simple syrup or lime juice if needed. Add a splash of cold water if too thick.
  6. Serve immediately in prepared glasses. Garnish with a lime wheel or small watermelon wedge if desired.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Fresh lime juice is essential for brightness. Blend ice cubes with watermelon for perfect slushie texture. Chill glasses for extra refreshment. Adjust sweetness to taste. Can substitute tequila with mezcal for smoky flavor. Non-alcoholic version can be made by replacing tequila and triple sec with extra lime and orange juice.
