A quick and easy patriotic snack featuring pretzel rods dipped in layered red, white, and blue chocolate with optional festive sprinkles. Perfect for holidays and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Pretzel rods (sturdy, straight)
  • 12 ounces white chocolate melting wafers (e.g., Ghirardelli or Wilton)
  • 6 ounces red candy melts
  • 6 ounces blue candy melts
  • 12 tablespoons vegetable oil or coconut oil (to thin chocolate if needed)
  • Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the white chocolate: Place 12 ounces of white chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on medium power for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat heating in 15-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable or coconut oil if too thick. (Approx. 5 minutes)
  2. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod at one end and dip about two-thirds into the melted white chocolate. Let excess drip back into the bowl. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with all pretzels. (Approx. 10 minutes)
  3. Set the white chocolate layer: Let the dipped pretzels sit at room temperature or chill in the fridge for 10 minutes until the chocolate firms up but isn’t fully hardened.
  4. Melt the red candy melts: Using the same method as the white chocolate, melt 6 ounces of red candy melts, adding a teaspoon of oil if needed for smoothness. (Approx. 5 minutes)
  5. Apply red stripes: Using a spoon or small spatula, drizzle or brush thin stripes of red chocolate over sections of the white layer on each pretzel rod. Alternate with white space for a striped effect. Let set for 5–7 minutes.
  6. Melt the blue candy melts: Repeat melting method with 6 ounces of blue candy melts. (Approx. 5 minutes)
  7. Add blue stripes: Drizzle blue stripes between the red and white sections, creating the classic red, white, and blue pattern. Add sprinkles immediately while chocolate is still wet if using. (Approx. 5 minutes)
  8. Final setting: Let all pretzel rods set completely at room temperature or chill for 15 minutes until firm. Handle carefully to avoid fingerprints on the glossy chocolate.

Notes

Add a tiny bit of oil if candy melts look grainy or thick. Let each chocolate layer set before adding the next to keep stripes crisp and colors distinct. Use good quality candy melts for best texture and shine. Hold pretzel rods near the top when dipping to avoid smudging. Add sprinkles while chocolate is still wet for best adhesion. Store in airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days or refrigerate up to a week. Freeze individually wrapped for longer storage.
