Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (175g) dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat unsalted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Fold in dark chocolate chips using a spatula or wooden spoon.
  7. Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches (5cm) of space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.
  9. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
