Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water or coffee
  • 2 cups (460g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 cups (600g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 20 Oreo cookies, crushed into crumbs
  • 10 Oreo cookies, coarsely crushed
  • Optional: chocolate drizzle or sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line your cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Slowly add the hot water or coffee while mixing.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until no lumps remain. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely on a rack.
  6. Beat the butter until fluffy. Add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Fold in the crushed Oreos.
  7. Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a generous layer of frosting on top, then add the second cake layer. Frost the top and sides, smoothing with an offset spatula.
  8. Sprinkle crushed Oreos over the top of the cake. Drizzle with chocolate or add sprinkles if desired.
  9. Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving to set the frosting. Slice and enjoy!
