Chewy, sweet, and satisfying bars that are simple to make and perfect for bake-offs, potlucks, or cozy dessert nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup (200g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (175g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, granulated sugar, and melted butter until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until fully incorporated.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until well combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit, if desired.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.
