  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of thinly sliced deli ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese (for stuffing)
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese (for sauce)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sauce)
  • 1 cup whole milk or 2% milk (for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for sauce)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound it to about 1/4-inch thickness using a meat mallet.
  2. Lay a slice of ham and Swiss cheese on each chicken breast. Roll the chicken tightly and secure the seam with toothpicks.
  3. Dredge each roll in flour, then dip into beaten eggs, and coat generously with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil. Brown each chicken roll for 2-3 minutes per side until golden.
  5. Transfer the browned chicken to a baking dish and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F or 74°C).
  6. Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens. Stir in shredded Swiss cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  7. Remove toothpicks from the chicken rolls and drizzle with the cheese sauce before serving.
