This air fryer French fries recipe delivers crispy, golden fries with less oil and mess than traditional frying. Perfect for a quick snack or side dish, these fries are healthy, flavorful, and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Russet potatoes (about 1.5 lbs / 700g)
  • 12 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel potatoes if desired, or leave skin on for extra texture.
  2. Cut potatoes into sticks about ¼ to ½ inch thick (6-12 mm), keeping sizes uniform.
  3. Soak the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water for 20-30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  4. Drain and pat the potatoes completely dry with kitchen towels or paper towels.
  5. Toss the dried potatoes with 1-2 tablespoons olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika if using.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Place fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding; cook in batches if necessary.
  8. Cook for 15 minutes, shaking or turning fries halfway through for even cooking.
  9. Check for crispness; if needed, cook an additional 3-5 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
  10. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Soaking the potatoes removes excess starch for crispier fries. Pat potatoes dry thoroughly to avoid sogginess. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes to restore crispiness. Avoid microwaving leftovers as fries become soggy.
