Irish Mule cocktail recipe - featured image

A refreshing and easy-to-make cocktail combining the crisp zing of ginger beer with the smooth warmth of Irish whiskey, brightened by fresh lime juice. Perfect for any occasion, this Irish Mule offers a lively twist on the classic mule.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Irish whiskey (e.g., Jameson)
  • 46 oz ginger beer (e.g., Fever-Tree or Bundaberg)
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge or wheel (for garnish)
  • Fresh mint sprig (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill your copper mug or highball glass in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
  2. Cut a fresh lime in half and squeeze about 0.5 oz (15 ml) of juice using a citrus juicer, avoiding seeds.
  3. Fill the chilled mug about three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  4. Pour 2 oz (60 ml) of Irish whiskey over the ice.
  5. Add the freshly squeezed lime juice over the whiskey and ice.
  6. Slowly pour 4-6 oz (120-180 ml) of ginger beer to fill the mug, adjusting to taste.
  7. Gently stir with a spoon or stirrer to combine ingredients without losing fizz.
  8. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel and optionally a sprig of fresh mint, then serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Chill your mug or glass to keep the drink crisp longer. Pour ginger beer over the back of a spoon to preserve carbonation. Avoid over-stirring to maintain fizz. Adjust ginger beer amount for sweetness and strength. For less sweet, use drier ginger beer or reduce quantity. Optional garnishes include fresh mint sprig. For a low-carb version, use sugar-free ginger soda. Store whiskey and lime juice separately if making ahead; add ginger beer just before serving.
