These green velvet brownies offer a rich, fudgy texture with a subtle earthy twist from matcha powder, creating a vibrant and unforgettable treat made with just five simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy lifting.
  2. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl until fully liquid but not hot, about 30 seconds on medium power. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk sugar and eggs until pale and slightly fluffy, about 2 minutes by hand or 1 minute with an electric mixer.
  4. Slowly pour the melted butter into the egg and sugar mixture while whisking continuously to keep the batter smooth.
  5. Sift together the flour and matcha powder in a separate bowl to avoid lumps and ensure even color.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 22-25 minutes, starting to check at 20 minutes by inserting a toothpick; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  9. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for about 45 minutes.
  10. Use the parchment overhang to lift the brownies out and cut into squares. Wipe the knife between slices for clean cuts.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality matcha powder for the best color and flavor. Avoid overmixing the batter to keep brownies fudgy, not cakey. Let brownies cool completely before cutting to prevent crumbling. An oven thermometer is recommended to ensure accurate baking temperature.
