A quick and easy garlic butter shrimp recipe that delivers restaurant-style flavor at home. Perfect for busy weeknights or special occasions, this dish is packed with garlicky, buttery goodness and ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse peeled and deveined shrimp under cold water and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.
  2. Place a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil and 2 tablespoons butter. Let butter melt completely without browning, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté gently for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook for about 2 minutes on one side until pink and curling. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until opaque and firm.
  5. Stir in remaining 2 tablespoons butter. When melted, season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Toss shrimp gently to coat in sauce.
  6. Remove pan from heat and squeeze fresh lemon juice over shrimp. Sprinkle chopped parsley and toss once more.
  7. Serve immediately, optionally over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure shrimp sear properly and avoid steaming. Use fresh garlic for best flavor and cook on medium heat to prevent burning. Pat shrimp dry before cooking for a better sear. Add lemon juice and parsley off heat to keep flavors fresh. For dairy-free option, substitute butter with ghee or coconut oil.
