These Easy Mummy Hot Dogs with Spider Web Ketchup are a fun, quick Halloween snack that kids and adults love. Wrapped in flaky puff pastry and served with a creepy ketchup web, they come together in under 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 standard size hot dogs
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • Mustard or mayo (for eyes, optional)
  • Black sesame seeds (for eyes, optional)
  • Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, unfold the puff pastry and roll it out slightly to about 1/8-inch thick, aiming for a 12×12-inch rectangle.
  3. Using a sharp pizza cutter or knife, cut the pastry into strips about 1/2-inch wide (about 20-24 strips).
  4. Take one hot dog and wrap a pastry strip around it at a slight diagonal, overlapping edges slightly and leaving a small gap at the top for the face. Use 2-3 strips per hot dog. Press ends gently to seal.
  5. Place wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the exposed pastry strips.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until pastry is puffed and golden brown and hot dogs are heated through.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool on the pan for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Using a toothpick or knife tip, dab tiny amounts of mustard or mayo onto the exposed hot dog for eyes. If using, press black sesame seeds into the mustard dots.
  10. Fill a squeeze bottle or piping bag with ketchup. On a serving plate or directly on the side of each mummy hot dog, pipe a small spiral starting from the center and working outward. Then, using a toothpick or knife tip, drag lines from the center outward through the spiral to create a web effect. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, keep puff pastry cold and work quickly. Leave small gaps in the wrapping for a mummy look. The spider web ketchup is best done right before serving to prevent sogginess. Leftover mummy hot dogs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes.
