Make your own Starbucks-inspired pumpkin cream cold foam coffee at home in just 5 minutes. This easy copycat recipe uses a secret ingredient—cream cheese—for a thick, velvety foam that tastes like pumpkin cheesecake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk (or 2% milk; oat milk works in a pinch)
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree (canned, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup or maple syrup for sweetness

Instructions

  1. Make the coffee base: Brew 1 cup of strong coffee using your preferred method. Let it cool completely in the fridge for about 10 minutes, or use leftover coffee from the morning.
  2. Soften the cream cheese: While the coffee is cooling, take 1 tablespoon of cream cheese out of the fridge and let it sit on the counter for a few minutes to soften. If in a hurry, microwave for 5 seconds.
  3. Combine the foam ingredients: In a small mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese, heavy cream, whole milk, pumpkin puree, powdered sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk or froth the mixture: Using a handheld frother, blend for 30-45 seconds until thick, creamy, and pale orange. If using a whisk, whisk vigorously for 60-90 seconds until doubled in volume and soft peaks form.
  5. Assemble the drink: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the chilled coffee over the ice, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Stir in optional syrup if desired.
  6. Top with the foam: Gently spoon the pumpkin cream cold foam over the coffee. Sprinkle a pinch of pumpkin pie spice on top for garnish.
  7. Serve immediately: Give it a gentle stir with a straw if desired, or sip through the foam.

Notes

The cream cheese is the secret ingredient for a stable, thick foam. Make sure it is softened to room temperature to avoid lumps. For best results, use cold ingredients and chilled coffee. The foam is best enjoyed immediately but can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days; re-froth before using.
