This golden, cheesy, bacon-studded pull-apart bread is shaped like a football and ready in under 30 minutes. Perfect for game day, it combines canned biscuits, crispy bacon, sharp cheddar, and tangy ranch seasoning for an irresistible, shareable appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (16.3 oz each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (such as Pillsbury Grands)
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (about 810 strips)
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Position rack in center of oven. Generously spray a round or oval baking dish (9-inch or 10-inch) with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Cook bacon until extra crispy. In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon strips for 6-8 minutes, flipping once, until deep golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain and cool. Once cool, crumble into small pieces (about the size of small peas).
  3. Open biscuit cans and separate biscuits. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut each biscuit into quarters. You should have about 32 pieces total.
  4. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt butter in 20-second increments until fully liquid. Stir in the entire packet of ranch seasoning mix until smooth.
  5. Place all biscuit quarters in a large mixing bowl. Pour the ranch-butter mixture over the top. Using a spatula or your hands, gently toss the biscuit pieces until every piece is coated.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon over the coated biscuit pieces. Toss again gently to distribute evenly.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared dish. Using your hands, shape the biscuit pieces into an oval football shape. Leave a little space between pieces for air to circulate.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the top is deep golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. If the top is browning too fast, loosely tent with foil for the last 5 minutes.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Sprinkle fresh chopped chives over the top. Serve warm, directly from the dish.

Notes

For best results, shred your own cheese from a block—it melts smoother than pre-shredded. Make sure bacon is extra crispy and well-drained to avoid sogginess. Let the melted butter cool slightly before mixing with biscuit pieces. If you want extra crispy edges, toast the biscuit pieces on a baking sheet for 3-4 minutes before coating. The bread is done when an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads at least 200°F (93°C).
