These crispy honey garlic chicken wings are perfectly cooked in an air fryer, delivering a sticky, sweet, and garlicky glaze with a golden crisp. Ideal for game day or casual gatherings, they’re quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings, fresh or thawed, skin on
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup honey (60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for heat
  • Optional: sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat dry the chicken wings with paper towels to remove moisture (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, toss wings with baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated (3 minutes).
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, skin side up if possible, without overcrowding (2 minutes). Cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Air fry wings for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown, crispy, and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. While wings cook, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, and water in a small saucepan. Warm over low heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring gently until combined and slightly thickened (5 minutes).
  7. Transfer cooked wings to a large bowl and pour the warm honey garlic glaze over them. Toss with tongs to coat evenly (2 minutes).
  8. Serve immediately, garnished with red pepper flakes or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Pat wings dry thoroughly before seasoning to ensure crispiness. Use baking powder (not baking soda) to help crisp the skin. Warm the glaze gently to avoid burning the honey. If wings lose crispiness after glazing, air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes at 400°F (200°C). For gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. To reduce sugar, use a sugar-free honey substitute or reduce honey amount.
