Ingredients

  • String cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or pepper jack)
  • All-purpose flour
  • Large eggs
  • Breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • Panko breadcrumbs (optional for extra crunch)
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika
  • Italian seasoning
  • Vegetable oil (canola or sunflower oil)
  • Marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Unwrap the string cheese and cut each stick in half for smaller portions. Freeze for 30 minutes to firm up.
  2. Prepare three bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Roll each cheese stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, and coat generously in the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for extra crunch.
  4. Place the coated cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour to ensure the coating stays intact during frying.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). Test the oil by dropping a small breadcrumb—it should sizzle immediately.
  6. Carefully place a few cheese sticks into the hot oil using tongs. Fry for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the skillet.
  7. Remove the fried cheese sticks and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Heat store-bought marinara sauce or make your own by simmering crushed tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil for 10 minutes.
  9. Serve the crispy cheese sticks immediately with marinara dip.

Notes

Double-coat the cheese sticks for extra crunch and freeze them before frying to prevent melting. Maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) for consistent frying.
