A quick and easy recipe for crispy, flavorful shrimp cooked in an air fryer, perfect for a satisfying meal in about 15 minutes.

  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on or off
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional)
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 pound of raw shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Peel and devein; leaving tails on is optional.
  2. Place shrimp in a medium bowl and pour ½ cup buttermilk over them. Stir gently to coat and soak for 10 minutes.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine 1 cup panko breadcrumbs, ½ cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional), ¾ teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Remove shrimp from buttermilk one by one, letting excess drip off. Dredge each shrimp in the dry mixture, pressing gently to adhere the coating. Place coated shrimp on a baking sheet or plate.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange shrimp in a single layer without touching. Spray tops lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry shrimp at 400°F (200°C) for 6 minutes, flipping halfway through and spraying again lightly with cooking spray.
  8. Transfer shrimp to a serving plate and serve immediately. Optionally, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top or serve with dipping sauces.

Notes

Dry shrimp thoroughly before soaking to avoid soggy coating. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure crispiness. Spray shrimp lightly with cooking spray instead of oil to keep them crispy without greasiness. Flip shrimp halfway through cooking for even crisping. Adjust cooking time based on shrimp size.
