Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a clean, oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  2. While the dough is rising, combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 10×15 inches.
  4. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the garlic butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  5. Bake the breadsticks for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  6. While the breadsticks are baking, heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the breadsticks are done baking, let them cool for 5 minutes. Use a pizza cutter to slice them into sticks and serve warm with the marinara dip.

Notes

Be generous with the garlic butter for maximum flavor. Use warm water for the dough to activate the yeast properly. Customize the marinara dip with red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
