These quick high-protein overnight oats are a lifesaver for busy school mornings. Made with simple ingredients like Greek yogurt, oats, and chia seeds, they provide a creamy, filling breakfast that kids love and parents can prep in just 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (whole, almond, or oat)
  • 2 tablespoons (24g) chia seeds
  • 12 tablespoons (15-30ml) honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: fresh berries, sliced banana, chopped nuts, peanut butter, cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl or large liquid measuring cup, combine the Greek yogurt, milk, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and no lumps remain.
  2. Add the rolled oats, chia seeds, and salt. Stir until all oats are submerged and ingredients are well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture evenly among 4-6 mason jars or airtight containers, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
  4. If desired, add toppings now or wait until morning. Screw lids on tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
  5. In the morning, stir the oats well. Serve cold or microwave for 45-60 seconds for warm oats. Add a splash of milk if needed.

Notes

The ratio is key: 1 part oats to 1 part milk to 1 part yogurt. Don’t skip the chia seeds—they create the pudding-like texture. Mix in a big bowl first to avoid dry pockets. Use room temperature ingredients for better blending. For a vegan version, use plant-based yogurt and milk. For extra protein, add a scoop of protein powder mixed with a little milk first.
