  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp (8g) cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and softened butter for the crust. Mix until crumbly and press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes, then set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the baked crust.
  5. In a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the streusel topping. Add the cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to mix until crumbly. Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the apple layer.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. Let cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into bars.
