Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Cooking spray or oil, for misting
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds, toasted (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken into 1-inch pieces and pat dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up a dredging station: Place cornstarch and flour in a shallow bowl. Beat eggs in a separate bowl.
  3. Dip each chicken piece into the beaten eggs, then dredge in the cornstarch-flour mixture. Shake off excess and arrange on a plate or baking sheet.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes.
  5. Lightly mist chicken bites with cooking spray or brush with oil. Place in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if needed.
  6. Air fry at 400°F for 8–10 minutes, shaking or turning halfway through, until golden and crisp and chicken reaches 165°F internally.
  7. While chicken cooks, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil (if using) in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring often, until slightly thickened (about 3–4 minutes). Add red pepper flakes if desired.
  8. Transfer cooked chicken bites to a large bowl. Pour warm honey garlic sauce over and toss to coat evenly.
  9. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve hot.

Notes

For gluten-free, use gluten-free flour and tamari or coconut aminos. For extra heat, add sriracha or more red pepper flakes. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket for best crispiness. Pat chicken dry before coating. Leftovers reheat best in the air fryer. Can substitute apple cider vinegar for rice vinegar.
