Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine ¾ cup warm milk with 1 tablespoon sugar and the instant yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt. Add the yeast mixture, 3 tablespoons melted butter, and 1 large egg. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if sticky but keep dough soft.
  4. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover loosely, and let rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling: Mix ⅓ cup brown sugar with 2 tablespoons cinnamon. Soften 3 tablespoons butter separately.
  6. Roll out the dough: Punch down dough and roll into a 12×9 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the filling: Brush softened butter evenly over dough, then sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture on top, pressing lightly.
  8. Form the rolls: Roll dough tightly from the long edge into a log. Slice into 8 equal rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss.
